I cannot run any scripts this morning, it gives me the following message:

'Application cannot be started. Please contact the application vendor'

Can somebody help me out with this?

Hmm, I can run scripts just fine. Which script(s) are you trying to run? Which browser, OS and launch method are you using?

On closer inspection, millisecond is running on my computer in another office, but not on this computer.

The IT dept are refusing to help, because they say that millisecond is not 'supported' by the trust.

Do you have any ideas why it would stop working all of a sudden on a particular computer?

No, I don't. How exactly are you trying to run scripts? Using Inquisit Web or Lab? Which scripts? What are those system's specs? What are the exact symptoms (error messages or the like)?

What's the computer's operating system? Which browser are you using? Which launch method (Java, NPAPI plugin, ActiveX, ClickOnce)? Do all of them result in the same error message? What's the system's Java Runtime Environment version? What changed on the system between the day things were working and the first time you got that error?

Sorry -I don't seem to be getting email alerts when you reply.

The operating system is Windows XP, I'm using internet explorer, and Java. I'm not sure how to use any of the others to launch it. It's version 1.7.0. I'm not aware of any changes to anything on the computer.

Which IE version? 7? 8? 9? Java 1.7.0 doesn't say much, you also need to report the update version (most recent is Java 7 update 45). To use a different launch method, click the "Having trouble launching?" link at the bottom of the given launch page. You can also try a different browser than IE (Firefox, Chrome).

I think we are being limited here by my lack of computer knowledge - I am trying to answer your questions, but every answer seems to lead to many more.

Would it be better, or possible, to sort this out over the phone?

My preference is to do this in written form, precisely *because* details matter. So, every application (e.g your Internet Explorer) has a menu / about dialog with version info. Do you know how to find that? If not, you can either ask me for directions here or consult your search engine of choice for directions. You can also look at the list of installed programs provided via Windows control panel which does include version info in most cases.
