Failing to run any script

https://forums.millisecond.com/Topic12793.aspx

Hi,
I recently installed inquisit 4 and tried running a few scripts from the task library, none of them worked.
I keep getting a white screen with one button and nothing else happens. (Screen shot - http://s30.postimg.org/6blh2rsy9/Screen_Shot.jpg).
I tried two windows laptops both having the same problem.
I also tried updating drivers and DirectX and still nothing.
The same problem happens with the web or laptop version.

Any ideas?

Thanks...

Never seen anything like this and haven't heard any similar reports either. What's the Inquisit version you are using (if it's not the latest, please update)? Which particular script produced that screenshot? What are the specs of the machines you've tried? Does the log file (Tools -> View Log File...) reveal any errors?

Thanks.

I'm using the latest version (Downloaded yesterday) of inquisit.
I'm running an ASUS UX31 (zenbook), windows 7 64-bit, but had the same issue on a dell...
The first script was Competitive Reaction Time Task but I tried a few more and the same thing happens.

Log file is copied below...

Hmm, the log looks normal as far as I can see, no clues there. Question: Is there anything peculiar the two machines you've tried have in common, i.e., some special software configuration or the like? I'd be particularly interested in any applications running in the background that would hook into the machines' display system (think: remote administration tools, screen sharing apps, video conferencing software or the like). Thanks.

Nothing I can think of, the two computers have nothing in common, the other one is not even mine, I borrowed it from a friend.

I tried quitting every other application but still nothing helps.

The only thing I can think of is that both computers run a Hebrew version of windows (with English also available).
Any chance this can cause problems?

Thanks for the additional details.

Can you try the following: Set the default language for non-unicode applications (i.e., the system's codepage) to something different than Hebrew and let me know if that changes anything?

One other thing to try - in one of the scripts, can you set the following attribute:
<defaults>
/ bidirectional = false
</defaults>
and then try running it?

Also
1) Is this the first time you installed Inquisit on these computers, or did you have a prior version installed that was running fine?
2) Are you trying to run custom scripts? If so, can you try one from our script library such as the Brieft IAT (http://www.millisecond.com/download/library/IAT/BriefIAT/)

Thanks,
Sean

FYI: No need to answer the above two questions by Sean. We see that the relevant info is already available in the thread. To sum up for other interested readers:

- Inquisit version under discussion is 4.0.5.0, no prior versions were installed on the machines in question.
- Issue is not specific to any custom scripts, but appears to apply to all (including those from the task library, e.g. the Competitive Reaction Time Task mentioned earlier in the thread).

It Worked!!

I changed the system default language for non-unicode from Hebrew to English and everything is just fine, works like a charm...

Thanks a lot for all the help!

Thank you for the update / confirmation. I'll file a bug report about the language setting / positioning issue so this gets improved in one of the next updates to Inquisit 4.
