Hi,
I installed inquisit 4, and downloded stop signal task for an experiment.
It worked fine on mac, but It didn't on PC (windows7). The arrows and circle don't show on the screen, and only beeping sound was presented.
I wonder how I could fix it.

Thanks,

This would suggest an issue with your Windows machine's display system. (I know for a fact that the SST works fine under Windows 7 and have just confirmed this on a Win7 test machine). The first thing you should do is update the machine's graphics card driver to the latest version available from the vendor.

If that does not resolve it, please report if there's anything special about the particular machine (e.g. a multi-monitor setup; in that case, try disconnecting the secondary display).

Thanks for reply.
I updated graphic card driver to the latest version, and there is nothing special for the machine (no secondary display hardware...etc).
Is there any other possible factor which could cause display problem?
Thanks,

Are you --by any chance -- running Windows on a Mac via Bootcamp?
By flips333 - 8/6/2014

Having the same problem.  Hearing the tones but the Arrows aren't showing.

Same question to you then: Are you using a PC or are you running Windows on a Mac via Boot Camp? If PC, what are the hard- and software specs? Are you using Inquisit 4 Lab or Web? Which version?

I don't run windows on a Mac, and following is spec of my laptop.

windows 7 Enterprise K, Intel(R) Core(TM)2Duo CPU, 64bit, 6.00GB ram,
Geforce with CUDA (GeForece 9300M GS), graphic card driver is undated to the latest version available.
DirectX 11.0 version.

and I used inquisit 4lab 4.0.6.0 (for windows) which was release on Jun 30, 2014.

Thanks for the additional details. I have no idea, really. Given that that particular graphics card dates from the Vista era, the most likely explanation still seems to be a broken driver / some incompatibility with Windows 7's display system. It might also be the card's power management that's at fault here ("Powermizer") and is known to cause weird issues (cf. https://forums.geforce.com/default/topic/413526/geforce-drivers/geforce-9300m-gs-quot-powermizer-quot-causing-dpc-latency-spikes-amp-audio-dropouts/ ). You might want to disable it in the driver's settings along with any other tuning features to check if that makes any difference.

Hope this helps.

I'm running windows 7 professional

on a Intel (R) Xenon (R) CPU E5606 @ 2.13 GHz. (2 Processors.
With a NVIDA Quatro video card/.

Hm, okay. Theory-testing time: What happens when you replace the original images with the ones in the attached archive? Still not showing up?
By flips333 - 8/15/2014

Problem persists... The problem is clearly now (thanks to the fact that I saw a red box the whole time and heard some beeps) that the erase image is not going away.

The left arrow or right arrow may delivered but under the erase image?

I also noticed that when I control-alt-deleted to get to the task manager the arrows would pop up when I quit out of the task manager.

> The left arrow or right arrow may delivered but under the erase image?

Since the erase image is only displayed *after* the arrow, that should not be possible:

/ stimulustimes = [0=fixation; 250=stim; 1500=erasestim]

Question is why aren't the other two stims not drawn on your system (the fixation circle at 0 and the arrow stimulus at 250).

Have you made any edits to the script or are you using it as is?

For the record: I am (still) unable to reproduce this under Win7 and would suspect the cause to be a bug in the graphics card / its driver. Based on your description

> I also noticed that when I control-alt-deleted to get to the task manager the arrows would pop up when I quit out of the task manager.

it would seem that it's not updating the screen as it's supposed to.

I will get a temporary admin account to check tha graphics card driver and get back to you.

Hi, I dowloaded bmp files, and tried again with new images files.

All I saw was red square (erase.bmp, I guess...), but no arrows.

How could I fix this?

By Dave - 8/17/2014

As far as I can tell up to this point it's an issue with your graphics card -- I really don't know how to fix it, certainly not how to fix it immediately.

and one more thing...
I tried same task with inquisit 3, and It worked fine.
Every image files were showing on screen.
It's embarrassing, cause I was going to buy a lisence key for inquisit 4.
I can't use inquisit 3 with a lisence key of inquisit4. Is it correct?

> I tried same task with inquisit 3, and It worked fine.

That's an interesting data point -- thank you for that.

> I can't use inquisit 3 with a lisence key of inquisit4. Is it correct?

That's correct. However, what happens when you run the Inquisit 3 version of the script in Inquisit 4? Same issue or not?

I ran Inquisit 3 version script in Inquisit 4.
same issue. I don't see any arrow images on the screen.

Took some doing but I found the right driver for my video card.  Now it works fine.

Great! Thanks for the update on that -- seems to confirm the initial theory, i.e., buggy graphics card driver.
