Problem with RB-730 Cedrus response boxes

https://forums.millisecond.com/Topic22978.aspx

Hi Dave,

We updated our licence from Inquisit 4 to 5.
The scripts that before worked with the response box and Inquisit 4 don't seems to work anymore.

I have tried to run the xidresponsetest script available on your website and the response box seems working fine.

I sent you an example of script that was working in Inquisit 4 and doesn't seem to work anymore.
This problem is seen on a Windows PC as well on a Mac.

Any clue?

Thank you,

Elena

Hi Elena,

(1) What are the response values you are seeing coming from the box when running the xidresponsetest script?
(2) Can you confirm those are (still) identical to what's configured in your script's <values> element?

<values>
/fixationcrosspresentationtime = 500
/keyred = 48
/redlabel = "RED"
/keygreen = 80
/greenlabel = "GREEN"
/keyblue = 112
/bluelabel = "BLUE"
/keyyellow = 144
/yellowlabel = "YELLOW"
</values>

Hi Dave,

Thank you for your reply.

Yes they are exactly the same numbers coming from your script.

There is also the “next button” that was and still is 240. That’s the number for the button press (not for the button release, that generates another number).

However, if I put ”anyresponse” on my script, it seems working for any button press or release.

Thank you,

Elena

Huh, that's very strange. Could you run the attached script and

(1) confirm for me that it indeed accepts any button press or release from the box as response (it shouldn't), and
(2) attach the resulting data file here (click +Insert -> Add File)?

The script just runs the practice portion (10 trials).

Thanks!

Hi Dave,

(1) No it doesn't indeed

(2) Please find in attachment.

Now it runs with both Inquisit 4 and 5. Before on Inquisit 4 (trial version, since I don't have the licence anymore) it was running ok and in Inquisit 5 if it started up if run only the first page. Sometimes it stopped working after the first page, sometimes it did not start up (XID device not found) and sometimes it didn't work even for the first page.

Thanks,

Elena

Thanks, Elena. It's a strange problem, but at least there seems to be a workaround. I can implement that workaround for the rest of the script as well if you want to, in addition to the practice part.

Hi Dave, no problems thanks you. All files that used the response box behave similarly. What I have seen that vadilresponse and correspresponse don't seem to be accepted with the response box in Inquisit 5. If changing these to isvalidresponse and iscorrectresponse it works instead. Thank you,  Elena
