Hi Dave,

I posted my Inquisit experiment on Prolific.ac. But a lot of people can't open the experiment as it gives a wall of error messages. It works fine on mac. I'm not sure if this is a windows problem? I saw people have similar problems from previous threads. But how exactly should I troubleshoot this if I still want people online to complete the task?

This is my the task link: https://mili2nd.co/ghkb

Here is the kind of error messages that participants have been getting:

For MP3s you *must* use the element not <sound>. I.e.

<sound sound1>
/ items = sound1
/ select = list.sound.nextvalue
</sound>

<sound soundMM>
/ items = soundMM
/ select = noreplace
</sound>

ought to be

/ items = sound1
/ select = list.sound.nextvalue

/ items = soundMM
/ select = noreplace

The <sound> element is for use with WAV files only, that other file types work with it under OSX as well is due to OSX handling audio files differently internally than Windows does.

The WIC errors are probably due to invalid metadata in one or several of the image files used by your script. You can use a program like IrfanView to remove any and all metadata from the images.

Finally, as a safeguard, it's advisable to list all file names in strictly lowercase letters in the script, i.e.

/ 1 = "pair00_imagea1.jpg"
/ 2 = "pair01_imagea1.jpg"
/ 3 = "pair02_imagea1.jpg"
/ 4 = "pair03_imagea1.jpg"
/ 5 = "pair04_imagea1.jpg"
/ 6 = "pair05_imagea1.jpg"
...

instead of

/ 1 = "Pair00_ImageA1.jpg"
/ 2 = "Pair01_ImageA1.jpg"
/ 3 = "Pair02_ImageA1.jpg"
/ 4 = "Pair03_ImageA1.jpg"
/ 5 = "Pair04_ImageA1.jpg"
/ 6 = "Pair05_ImageA1.jpg"
...

(and so forth for the other images and audio files used.)

The attached script correctly uses instead of <sound> and file names are all lower case.
