try this: select a larger chunk of text with multiple SHIFT-PageDown. Then hit SHIFT-ArrowDown to select one more line. On my Core i7 the latter takes more than a second to complete. There must be some extensive processing going on on the whole selection each time it is changed. Maybe this can be fixed in the next release.
