During an AMP section the E and I were unresponsive unless the user pressed and held Ctrl + E or I. The same was required for pressing numbers such as 5 (not on the numpad - Ctrl + 5) to proceed between sections.

If you have any ideas about this, that would be great to hear. However, no solution is really required as the workaround was used.

RE: Need to press and hold "Ctrl" to input keys

Totally guessing here (never seen this particular issue before), but perhaps the user accidentally enabled some keyboard accessibility option: https://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/forum/windows_vista-hardware/ctrl-key-locks/18da4b70-d684-42a8-9f12-115edaa5e0f7?auth=1
