Does anyone know of an easy way to change item variable names on import into SPSS?  Maybe just a trick to get rid of the "radiobuttons" or "textbox" in front of each variable name?  The only other thing I can think of is to go through and do it by hand.

Any insight would be appreciated.  Thanks!

SPSS should allow you to do that via its syntax. See e.g. http://spssx-discussion.1045642.n5.nabble.com/How-to-change-variable-names-in-SPSS-if-you-have-many-variables-td1085965.html or https://www-01.ibm.com/support/docview.wss?uid=swg21487520

Should you require further details, they should be available in the SPSS documentation or via other product support resources offered by its vendor (IBM).
