FYI, I recently encountered a problem with some WAV files which would produce a DirectSound error in Inquisit. The files had the same bitrate and sampling frequency as other files which played without issue in Inquisit. All files played fine with Windows Media as well as VLC media player.

As I found out using Adobe Audition, the problematic files featured a rather unusual encoding, being "32bit float". This obviously does not work with DirectSound.

Hence, if you have similar problems with certain WAV files, recode them, e.g. with Audacity, and use one of the WAV formats with "PCM" in their name. All work flawlessly in Inquisit.

Bye, Malte
