Probably because the *.exp file extension is registered to Inquisit on your machine.

Aha. For some reason it was opening in Inquisit - thanks for your help.

I am not entirely sure what that code / file is you pasted (judging from the referenced file names, it's for Presentation, an entirely different product from a different vendor; cf. https://www.neurobs.com/pres_docs/html/03_presentation/07_data_reporting/03_pcl_output_files.htm ). At any rate, it isn't an Inquisit script and that's why it won't run.

OK, so it appears the actual question is that I am running what should be a task, and it asks for subject ID/group number, but then nothing happens (though it does say it is run successfully) - given it's not an actual task, what is it doing? Unfortunately the people who built it/rant the study left the lab years ago...

You would have to contact the authors of the study to determine which delay discounting procedure they used specifically (if you cannot determine it from the literature cited in the paper / report). Once you've done so, different downloads for Inquisit 3 vs Inquisit 4 are clearly indicated on the respective page:

https://www.millisecond.com/download/library/DelayDiscountingTask/

Inquisit 3 scripts also work under Inquisit 4, so there's no problem there.

Hope this helps.

Hello,

I am going to be replicating a study I just discovered used a Delay Discounting task from the Inquisit Task Library. Unfortunately I'm not sure which one it is, and the version that was used is in Inquisit 3. How would I go about determining which script it is for and either a) upgrading it so I can use it with the most recent version of Inquisit or b) downloading the appropriate new version? Thanks!
