With a <slider>, all you can do is place the picker somewhere else via /defaultresponse. It is not possible to remove the highlighting (this is true for both <slider> and <likert>).

If you don't want either, you can build a "custom" likert scale using standard <trial>, <text>, etc. elements:

Hello-
I was wondering if there is a way to remove anchoring in likert scales. Below are two examples of what I have. Is there a way to prevent the picker from automatically positioning at the middle value before the user interacts with the slider? Also, is there a way to remove the blue highlight?

Thank you!
