I tried to adapt the Listening Span Task found here -http://www.millisecond.com/download/library/listeningspan/by combining it with the stopwatch and ‘target sighted’ script found here - https://www.millisecond.com/forums/Topic13775.aspx#bm22730.

Instead of a listening span task, we wanted to make it a Reading Span Task (RST).  Instead of listening to the sentences, participants are instructed to read the sentences and judge if the sentences make sense or not before recalling the last words of the sentences presented – this is working fine in the script.

However, we wanted to incorporate an Event Based Prospective Memory (EBPM) task as well as a Time Based Prospective Memory (TBPM) task and make the two tasks run concurrently with the RST.

In the TBPM, participants are asked to press a key (i.e., “ESC”) on the keyboard every 2 minutes whilst performing the other 2 tasks.  A stopwatch appears in the middle of the screen when the ESC key is pressed and disappears after 1 second.  We want the script to log when the participants checked the stopwatch and when they pressed the designated key.

In the EBPM, participants are asked to press a key (i.e., “F”) on the keyboard if they spot a particular target word in any of the sentences presented.   Again, the script has to log when the participants press the F key.

In the attached script, the TBPM and the EBPM is working but the next sentence/trial appears when either the ESC or F key is pressed.  Is there a way for the sentence to stay on the screen if the ESC or F key is pressed?  The next sentence/trial should only appear if participants press either the ‘E’ or ‘I’ key (i.e., the keys to judge if the sentences are nonsensical or not).  – (Note: see <trial practiceSentence> and <trial testSentence> in script)

Let me know if my requirements are not clear and thanks in advance for your help.

In general, if you want a stimulus -- here: the sentence -- to remain on-screen, you should set the respective <text> element's /erase attribute to false. You will also have to prevent a new selection. IIRC, we covered this already here: https://www.millisecond.com/forums/FindPost22739.aspx
