Hey there,
I nee da likert without preselection of a value. The preselection is unfavourable, if you are having an even number of points.
And even if I am having an odd number of points I don't want the preselection in the middle.
Does Inquisit 5 bring there some improvements?
What can I do?

… and in addition it is required to have a forward/backward button.
Seems that this is also not possible with a likert element?

Correct, that's not possible with <likert> elements. If you require forward & backward navigation, you ought to work with <radiobuttons> on <surveypage> elements administered via a <survey>. Otherwise, you'd also have the option to build a custom likert-scale using standard <trial>, <text> and <picture> elements, see e.g.
